Semester Offered: Spring Only
Literacy in the Content Area Part II addresses teaching students to improve their ability to read and learn from a variety of content texts. It will help teachers and potential teachers in every content area to understand the importance of literacy in their classrooms while meeting the needs of diverse learners and recognizing the impact of technology on literacy development in our society. Students taking the course will study, use, and evaluate a wide range of strategies and approaches to literacy instruction. The focus is on literacy tasks and assessment of those tasks to promote a better understanding of disciplinary content.   Teachers will develop professional dispositions for collaboration and leadership in order to work effectively with families, schools, and communities.  It is recommended that students have access to a classroom for this course.
