Program Description

The Associate of Arts in Art provides students with a strong foundation for transfer to a Bachelor of Arts (BA) program at a four-year college or university. It also prepares students for career advancement in a wide range of creative fields, including fine arts, illustration, commercial arts, K-12 art education, curatorial and museum studies, model making and special effects, 3D digital arts, decorative arts, art therapy, advertising, graphic design, animation, clay animation, art direction, arts administration, fashion design, interior design, and photography.

Students may declare one or more areas of concentration: Drawing and Painting, Ceramics, and Graphic Design. It is recommended that students contact the Art and Design Program Coordinator and art faculty early on. They can help you identify the best transfer institutions and guide you in selecting electives that align with your goals.

Upon successful completion of this concentration, students will also be able to:

  • Discuss the roles of tools and technology in the creation, reproduction, and distribution of visual messages.
  • Use industry-standard software tools for modeling, animation, illustration, video, sound, photography, and web/print design.
  • Apply the elements and principles of design to communicate aesthetic and conceptual intent.
